Evil Crew is a Spanish breakbeat project with roots in the scene dating back to the late 2000s. Its earlier discography appears on Beatport under The Evil Crew, a breakbeat formation associated particularly with Spektra Recordings and already active by at least 2009–2010. In September 2009 the name is on Spek10 - Volume Two; Beatport dates The Evil Crew remix of Bubu and Fofy's Summer 2012 to 29 June 2010. A 2010 scene source identifies VirtualeX as a member of that formation. The project released tracks such as In Your Soul, Dirty Party and The Rhythm Is Doubt, followed by the 2011 album Problem - Reaction - Solution — for which DJ Fen devoted a special programme — and The Return!! EP in 2012.
The current Evil Crew project is associated with producer and DJ Rubén Ortega Fernández and is best read as a continuation of that longer breakbeat trajectory, not as a catalogue that begins in 2023. Composer and producer credits on Green Lion, Kick It Hard, Bump It and DANCE WITH ME attach that civil name to the alias; on the latter he appears as Rubén Miguel Ortega Fernández alongside Antonio Jiménez Molina of SeekFlow.
The recent commercial run is clear from 2023. In August that year Dirty Break issued YA Krichu, Kak Chajka (Playbass & Evil Crew Break Edit), noting that the edit had already been in play through the 2022/23 season. A first fully commercial marker of this phase follows on 8 December 2023: DANCE WITH ME, by SeekFlow and Evil Crew, on DIRTY KITCHEN RAVE.
The music sits in Breaks / Breakbeat / UK Bass. Switch It, Rhythm, Green Lion, Progress and She Knows all belong to that filing, and the recent output stays inside that circuit rather than in a generic electronic or club tag.
The central association of this phase is with Playbass. The two names recur across Disolution, Progress, She Knows, So High, No Fear, Bump It, Busy, Blue Fire and Evil Eyes, as well as remixes such as RAVE MACHINE and Cunnilingus. That is a working partnership, not a one-off credit.
Break Beat Connection is a second house of weight. She Knows, released on 23 July 2025, and Progress, on 3 September 2025, both appear there as Playbass and Evil Crew. A promotional mix by Ctrl-Z for the Break Beat Connection Summer Festival 2025 also carried new and unreleased Evil Crew material, placing the project inside the current UK–Spain breaks circuit.
Br8kn Records is the main label association in 2026. The imprint carries Feel It with Macho, Trouble Skill with Rutek, On The Block with TT Beats, Kick It Hard with Jiro, No Fear and Bump It with Playbass, Green Lion with Jiro and Switch It with Manxito.
SPACE PIZZA Records is another visible home. Wrap, with Shade K and Playbass, is among the project's stronger recent titles; Blue Fire, again with Playbass, came out on the same imprint in late 2025. Pata Negra Records holds Blood Oath, Evil Eyes and Disolution, the last of those also appearing on Pata Negra Gold Vol.5.
The catalogue is not locked to that core network. Acid Moove, with DataFunk, is on Distorsion Records. Rhythm, with AndrewFx, was issued by Architektur Records on 27 March 2026 at 140 BPM in Breaks / Breakbeat / UK Bass. Other imprints in circulation include Samay Records and Delicious Groove Records.
Further collaborations extend the map: SeekFlow on the 2023 single; Shade K on Wrap; Jiro on Green Lion and Kick It Hard; Macho, Rutek, TT Beats and Manxito on the 2026 Br8kn run; Wallmaster on titles such as Scream, Goth Fairy, Devil Doll, Kawaii and Wanna; and J-Break among the wider credits.
2026 is a year of high frequency. Evil Crew is best read as a Spanish breakbeat name whose public record runs in two stages: a Spektra-linked formation in the late 2000s and early 2010s, and a highly active present centred on Rubén Ortega Fernández, a recurrent studio partnership with Playbass, and a catalogue that moves through Br8kn Records, Break Beat Connection, Space Pizza and Pata Negra.
