Digitally Mashed is a UK DJ, radio broadcaster and label curator whose work sits at the meeting point of J-Tek, future jungle, jungle techno and hardcore-rooted breakbeat. Based in Yorkshire, he has developed a club-facing practice centred on the continuity between rave’s early breakbeat energy and contemporary bass music.
Active as a DJ for more than two decades, he returned to the foreground of the scene in the late 2000s, when renewed interest in breakbeat-led rave forms created space for J-Tek, future jungle and related hybrid styles. His selections connect hardcore breaks and jungle rhythms with 140 material, ragga textures, dubwise pressure and garage-informed swing.
In 2009, Digitally Mashed co-founded Top Drawer Digital Records with Lucas. Their roles within the project are complementary: Lucas is associated with its production and management side, while Digitally Mashed is the label’s principal DJ and radio representative.
Top Drawer Digital has provided a home for contemporary producers working across house, hardcore, dubstep, drum & bass, J-Tek and breakbeat forms. Within that setting, Digitally Mashed has helped define the label’s DJ-facing identity through mixes, radio programming and compilations built for connected listening as much as individual tracks.
His work as a curator has placed him alongside artists from the wider Top Drawer Digital network, including Lucas, Strange Rollers, Sanxion and RadioKillaZ. Rather than treating jungle techno as a closed revivalist category, these projects frame it as an active production language with room for new rhythmic combinations and sound-system weight.
The 2020 collection Digitally Mashed Presents: Abstractions – Jungle Techno Breaks condensed that approach into a continuous format. Released by Top Drawer Digital Records, it assembled tracks by D3, dYstance, Swankout, Pressa, Rawtrachs, K-65, Beagle, Lucas, Sanxion, Strange Rollers, RadioKillaZ and others, with Digitally Mashed shaping the material into an hour-long DJ mix.
Abstractions 3: Jungle Techno Breaks expanded the concept in 2023. Presented by Lucas and Digitally Mashed through Top Drawer Digital and Bass Elements, the original release gathered 36 tracks from a broad cast of producers including D3, Rawtrachs, JMT, Beagle, Swankout, Sanxion, Strange Rollers, Trident and RadioKillaZ.
A mixed edition, Abstractions 3 Mixed, followed in 2024. Its continuous mix reinforced Digitally Mashed’s role at the centre of the series: not as a producer credited across the compilation’s individual cuts, but as the DJ who gives its large-scale roster a coherent dancefloor sequence.
Beyond the label catalogue, his SoundCloud and Mixcloud activity reflects a broad bass-music vocabulary. Future garage, speed garage, dubstep, 140, ragga, nu-skool jungle and dubwise drum & bass all appear within a selection practice anchored by breaks and rave dynamics. His remix of Marvellous Cain’s “The Hitman” also links that outlook directly to jungle’s foundational ragga current.
Radio remains central to the project. Digitally Mashed has presented the TDD / Bass Elements Show with Lucas, alongside other broadcasts including a house show on Influx Radio, extending the label’s musical conversation beyond releases and club sets.
Digitally Mashed’s contribution lies in the independent DJ-curator role: bringing artists into a shared framework, maintaining a practical connection between rave history and current production, and giving J-Tek, jungle techno and future-jungle material a durable context for radio, sound systems and the dancefloor.
