Obsidian Wave is a London producer whose official Beatport biography states that he was born and raised in the city and came up through the jungle and hardcore era, surrounded by pirate radio and illegal raves. Those sounds, the text says, are woven into a heavy, raw mix of techno and breaks with a strong tie to that past. SoundCloud carries essentially the same biography and adds that he works both as a solo artist and as a member of the rave collective We Kill Culture. Early self-releases credit Written & Produced by J. Given — Team, issued on 9 July 2021, is one. The DIRTY KITCHEN RAVE Bandcamp page for FOOLISH / DONNIE! (2 March 2026) lists James Given. The civil name is therefore given as the credited J. Given; the fuller form is a later label listing, not a separately verified legal document.
Documented activity starts in 2021. His own Bandcamp that year includes Driller Killer, Peace, Love, Unity, Respect, 8LINE and Team. The first important label run is with Torre, the Manchester imprint: Underground E.P. (Underground, Digitized Thought) in July 2021; Obsession E.P. (Obsession, Burn Down Stages) in October; Raver's Prayer E.P. (Raver's Prayer, Diamonds) on 10 December 2021. Torre continues with Hell Bound E.P. in 2022 (Hell Bound, Rage Complex), Brainfade E.P. in 2023 (Brainfade, Gameboy), Future E.P. in 2024 (Future, Bodycheck) and Originator on Materials Volume. 03 in 2025. That is a multi-year relationship, not a one-off.
We Kill Culture is part of the public identity, not a footnote. The collective starts in 2023 with Rawtrachs, Skin Teeth and Obsidian Wave. The first volume is framed as rave, breaks, beats and bass, paying homage to the scenes that formed the sound. Volumes 2 and 3 follow in 2023, 4 and 5 in 2025, and Vol.6 in 2026. Microcosm joins in 2025, making four members.
The useful tags are Breakbeat, Breaks, Hardcore Rave, Jungle and Raw / Hard Techno. Beatport calls the mix heavy and raw techno plus breaks, with jungle and hardcore in the grain. Early Bandcamp tags include techno breaks, hard breaks and hard techno; Torre adds breakbeat, hardcore, jungle and oldskool rave. UK Garage and UK Bass are not the headline identity.
From 2025 the current house is DIRTY KITCHEN RAVE. Beatport's highlighted titles include Fury, Better Hit Me, Closer, Can You Dig It?, Yappa Yappa, Nightvison and FOOLISH, several of them on DKR, plus compilation credits on UNIVERSAL BREAKS Vol 14 and 15 and RAVE / JUNGLE / D&B Vol 5. In parallel, Tribal Pulse carries the harder techno lane: Dopedust (Brain Thrower, Dopedust) in July 2026, filed as Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) at 140 BPM, and remixes such as Throw Up. BeatStats has also shown older titles performing in Hard Techno (No one's watching you, Run It Fuck It, Colours with Toxic D.N.A, Darkwater, Nothing Else Bangs Harder) while Breaks / Breakbeat / UK Bass highlights include Back2theRave, Wardance, Division and Shutdown. The catalogue is split, not purely breakbeat.
The most visible recent collaboration is Distillat — Better Hit Me, Closer, Can You Dig It?, Yappa Yappa. The We Kill Culture network adds Rawtrachs, Skin Teeth and Microcosm. Remixes include Skin Teeth's Plumstead Lullaby, Boom Merchant's Throw Up, plus work with Jori Samarin and Dark Kandy / Future:Remnants.
2026 remains fully active: FOOLISH / DONNIE!, Nightvison, Dopedust, Brain Thrower, the Plumstead Lullaby remix and further DKR compilation appearances.
