Mizzo is a North Carolina DJ and producer working at the junction of contemporary US breaks, Miami bass and electro. Associated with Charlotte after growing up in Winston-Salem, he represents a Southern breakbeat perspective in which Florida club music and 808-driven rhythmic language remain central references.
He began DJing in 2001, teaching himself on turntables before becoming active in North Carolina clubs. Residencies at Greene Street Nightclub and Limelight placed him in the state's nightlife circuit and made breakbeat and bass-led dance music the foundation of his sets.
Direct-support slots for Stanton Warriors, DJ Icey, Deekline, DJ Magic Mike, Keith Mackenzie and Dieselboy map the range of that circuit: UK-rooted breaks alongside the Florida artists and bass traditions that have been especially important to Mizzo's sound.
Mizzo started producing in 2014. He has described his music as "broken beat bass music," a concise description of tracks that bring breakbeat structures into contact with electro, Miami bass and vocal-led US club material.
The 2019 New Life EP was an early recorded statement, bringing together "Ain't Going Back," "You Say You Love Me" and "On the Floor." Its vocal fragments and broken rhythmic construction established ideas that would recur across his later releases.
With "Miami Bass" in 2021, he made one of his defining reference points explicit. The title foregrounded the Miami and Florida breaks lineage, including booty-bass energy and 808 programming, rather than treating those influences as background stylistic cues.
His catalogue has appeared through ElectroBreakz, Gigabeat Records, Illeven Eleven, Breaks Yo!, Zone Records, 83 and Elektroshok Records, among others. ElectroBreakz has been a recurring outlet for releases such as "How I Do Dat," "It's A Vibe" and 2024's The Disco EP.
In 2023, Mizzo joined Brothers Of Funk for 808 In The Crate, a collaborative album released by ElectroBreakz. The full-length format expanded their shared breaks-and-bass language beyond the standalone track format.
His 2024 run included "Dreamin'," "Get The Party Started" and "R U Ready" with Jaco Garner, plus "Table Dance" with Sporty-O. These records placed collaboration at the centre of his activity within the wider US breaks network.
Mizzo is also jointly credited with Keith Mackenzie on the original mix of Sporty-O and Gio Yaquinto's "So Blind," released through Illeven Eleven. The connection is a natural one: Mackenzie's long-running work across Florida breaks, electro and bass music closely parallels the territory Mizzo draws upon.
Released by Kaleidoscope Music in 2025, "JNCO" developed into a remix sequence involving N!KITA, DJ Richie Rich, Huda Hudia, K5 and $uper Geniu$. The project brought Mizzo's work into exchange with several established figures from US breakbeat.
Later releases including "Trapped," "Like That Mommy," "Get Nasty," "Boogie All Night Long" and the electro-leaning "When Your Mom Drops Acid" have extended that line. His collaboration with Keith Mackenzie on "Come Over Me" and appearances on Charlotte bills keep the local setting, Florida bass vocabulary and collaborative breaks culture closely intertwined.
