Kid Kenobi is Jesse Thomas Desenberg, a DJ and producer from Sydney. He places his first gig in August 1996. In those years he mixed hip hop, rave, big beat, acid breaks and drum & bass. By the late 1990s breakbeat carries more of the weight and, in the early 2000s, he is one of the most visible figures of the Australian breaks boom. From 2003 to 2005 he was voted Australia's favourite DJ three years running at the inthemix awards. Before that he had received Australian DJ of the Year at the Australian Dance Music Awards. He did not found the scene on his own: he was its most visible national face in that moment.
Ministry of Sound Australia was a hinge of that visibility. On 25 March 2002 he mixes Clubbers Guide to Breaks (MOSA015), a breakbeat double CD. He was the first DJ to whom Ministry of Sound dedicated a CD series under his own name.
The move into production leans on Poxy Music, the Australian duo of Pocket and Ken Cloud. One of the early strong remixes is Green Velvet's "La La Land", the Poxymusic & Kid Kenobi Remix, on Hussle Recordings. Then come "Kid Dynamite" (GT), "Tonight" (Amiel), "Rock Your Body" (Ferry Corsten) and "Drop The Pressure" (Mylo). Beatport counts more than 80 remixes for dance, pop and rock artists. With Hook N Sling he releases "The Bump", nominated in 2007 for the ARIA Award for Best Dance Release.
His label is Klub Kids. Through it he pushes Spenda C, Paces, Phetsta, J-Trick and Conway, Motez and Rubberteeth. In 2010 the EP The Adventures of Kid Kenobi comes out, with "Breakers Revenge 2010", "Silicon Soul" with MC Shureshock, "The Hour" with Jack Byrnes and "Watch Out". Among the aliases, Original Rude Boy is the 1990s rave-breaks project. Also in the set are Sekond Skin, The Party Kid and The Too Fresh, the last of those with Myli D.
In 2025 he releases The Album Not Album on Klub Kids; Beatport dates it 15 August. He says that about 80% of his sets are now his own productions, originals and reworks. On 10 November 2025 "Dance Fasta" (GUAU Edit) comes out, at 132 BPM. In November "Who's the Badman?" comes out with a Freestylers remix, at 138 BPM. In April 2026 his remix of The Chemical Brothers' "Galvanize" is in circulation. That year he is still playing in Australia, including Byron Bay with John Course and Mark Dynamix.
