Citybox is the Ukrainian production partnership of Eugene and Alex, with Alex also active as Mechanical Pressure. The project belongs to the contemporary European breaks continuum, connecting Ukrainian roots with a working base around Freiburg, Germany.
The Citybox/Mechanical Pressure link is central to the duo’s identity rather than a peripheral alias credit. Alex’s solo profile presents Citybox as his collaboration with Eugene, while a 2024 Prague appearance framed the project as “Mechanical Pressure pres. Citybox”; Eugene remained in Ukraine at that point.
Citybox were circulating in breakbeat tracklists by 2016 through “Day By Day,” and Distorsion Records has remained a recurring home across the project’s subsequent catalogue. That continuing relationship has supplied a thread between early material, later singles, collaborations and remixes.
Their productions generally work in the 130–134 BPM range shared by modern breaks and UK bass. Tightly programmed broken drums and substantial low end are balanced by melodic figures, atmosphere and, at times, acid-derived textures.
The 2023 Distorsion release “Palms / Never” set out that balance clearly: two concise cuts in which rhythmic pressure is offset by more melodic detail. “Let’s Drop,” also issued that year, returned the duo to the same label relationship.
The following period widened their label network. “Where I Am” appeared through Banana Club, “Oh Baby!” through ElectroBreakz, and “Acid Shake” through Raveart Records, the latter bringing a leaner acid-breaks edge to the project’s established rhythmic language.
Elektroshok Records has been another important outlet, issuing Citybox material including “Play” and “Alright,” as well as collaborations such as “Oud” with Bowser, “Trigger” with Bloody Bones and work with Sunsha. The Sunsha connection also includes “Volume,” featured on Elektroshok’s Rough Division compilation.
Collaboration has become a durable part of the discography. With Orebeat, Citybox have released “Go,” “Gangsta,” “Synthetic Rustling,” “Boom” and “Step On”; with Sunsha, the catalogue includes “Single Cell,” “Discotheque,” “Stay” and “Stay Fly.” “In Between,” made with Prato, extends the Distorsion circle, while “Rave In the Moon” links Citybox with Hankook.
Their remix work follows the same break-led logic. Citybox have reworked Affective’s “Once Again,” Kid Panel and Tone Abstract’s “The Future,” Orebeat and -Urbano-’s “In Your Mind,” Hankook’s “303,” Leeroy Thornhill and Rasco’s “Mind Wrecker,” and DJ Brownie’s “Sound System” and “Honey.”
The 2025–26 run of Distorsion releases has kept that network in motion through “Are You Ready,” “Stay Fly,” “Boom,” “Step On,” “Got To Have It” with SluG (FL), and “No Limits.” Alongside finished records, the Breaks & Breakbeat Samples Pack series, issued from 2024, turns the duo’s percussion-focused approach into source material for other producers.
Citybox’s catalogue is defined less by a fixed single-label identity than by continuity across independent European breakbeat outlets. Eugene and Alex have built a collaborative body of work in which Distorsion remains the anchor, while Elektroshok, Raveart, ElectroBreakz and Banana Club mark distinct extensions of the same breaks-centred project.
