AKAS is the current artistic alias of Steve KG, a producer and DJ from Kent whose career stretches back to the mid-2000s British drum & bass circuit. Beatport describes him as a UK producer/DJ from Kent, known chiefly for drum & bass with a strong early-1990s jungle and rave influence. The AKAS name marks a modern chapter — a clearly active return from the early 2020s onward — but the person behind it is not a newcomer: Steve KG was already publishing, promoting and running labels long before the comeback.

UKF recounts that Talkin Beatz began when Steve had a Netsky track no other label would release; he put it out alongside his own production and the imprint was born. Talkin Beatz went on to issue early material from Netsky, Fred V & Grafix, Dimension and other names who would later dominate drum & bass. Fred V & Grafix have publicly acknowledged that Steve was the first person to invest in pressing their music on vinyl — a detail that places him inside the pre-history of several major careers, not merely at their margins.
Before the label years, Steve KG worked across the ecosystem as producer, promoter, agent and record-shop staff — a profile that explains both his ear for records and his later frustration with industry politics. After stepping away for years following difficult experiences inside the business, he returned under the AKAS banner. UKF summed up the paradox neatly: AKAS is a new name to the scene, but the man behind it is not.
That return leans heavily on pirate-radio roots, jungle, early-1990s rave, hardcore, drum & bass and breakbeat. In interview he has stressed that he never wanted to produce only one style: his influences cross hip-hop, techno, house, reggae, hardcore, rave and jungle. Even during the comeback's drum & bass phase he pointed to I Know, a 140 BPM track built directly from hardcore/rave references — a line that foreshadows his later breakbeat work.
Old Skool New Skool, credited to AKAS with Georgia Phoenix and 2Shy MC on René LaVice's DeVice imprint, became one of the defining hits of the return. The track spent months among Beatport's best sellers; Suburban Base has cited three months inside the Top 10. Georgia Phoenix was both creative partner and personal partner in that chapter. True Grit, BBC Radio 1 support and backing from figures such as Pendulum, Hybrid Minds and Danny Byrd reinforced the sense of a serious second act rather than a nostalgia exercise. In December 2021 AKAS delivered his first guest mix for the BBC Radio 1 Drum & Bass Show, then hosted by René LaVice.
Suburban Base Records — one of the UK's historic jungle and drum & bass imprints — became another anchor. Clear The Path feat. MC Moose highlighted his blend of old-school flavour with modern production; the Selector EP followed in December 2025 and the Soundclash EP in April 2026. On Suburban Base's SUBBASE MIXTAPE – The Annual 2026, AKAS contributed not only tracks but the album's full continuous DJ mix, underlining a dual role as producer and selector.
Parallel to the D&B and jungle lane, a strong breakbeat chapter opened through Break Beat Connection from 2025–2026. Condition (140 BPM), Gonna Give You Up (included in Beatport's Best New Breaks / UK Bass: June 2025), Gods Work, Karmic Lessons (135 BPM), Let There Be Light VIP (130 BPM), Dreamscape, Dance The Night with McKoy and Top Cat (9 September 2026, 135 BPM) map a sustained presence in Breaks / Breakbeat / UK Bass at 130–140 BPM. Karmic Lessons Album Part 1 and Karmic Lessons Album Sampler 2 with McKoy show that phase as album-scale work, not isolated singles.
